I want to stick with 289 ci to stay vintage and keep that heritage. I THINK the engine was rebuilt in 2005 when the previous owner restored the car. For the record it is a 4 speed toploader with 3.25 trac-lok.

There are a few on the board. I think thumper has a 289 running 10.20's in a 3200lb car. I know there is a couple more in the same range. K. If you do a lot of stoplight to stoplight driving its not very fun unless you put 3.89 or 4.11 gears behind it. The HiPo 289 in my Shelby had worked HiPo heads and a pretty radical cam. I have seen blocks busted down the middle from pushing 450 to 500hp. If you are going to attempt this, I don't think you will do it with stock parts. I would definitely recommend using a support girdle on the crank.

There would be no point in investing in a 302 if you are going to go to a stroker in the next jump. If you plan to jump on it hard the stock transmission is probably not going to hold up.
