However, after checking for any leaks after the repairs, nothing was found and it idled all night just fine around the 180-200 range with the rpm's running at around 800-900. This is just my educated guess, but since oil flow is a good thing it think it is a safe guess lol Hill start assist uses the transmission clutches as brakes to hold the truck still, so there IS going to be slippage and thus heat created ... Sitting at a light, the temp shot up to about 230, eng protect lite on, shut it off, checked under hood, nothing boiling, full of coolant, fan spins freely, belt in place. Got in, pumped brakes to remove air in tanks so to engage horton fan clutch, started up and put it at high idle. Temp came back down to normal.

The fan clutch failure mode causes the fan to shut down instead of switching into high speed mode as the engine warms up. You'll get to replace the fan clutch.
